People with Intellectual Disability

A special educator who has completed this specialization works with individuals whose

  • cognitive abilities and cognitive functions (perception, attention, thinking, memory) develop at a significantly different pace compared to the average population (in addition to the intelligence quotient, adaptive skills are also typically affected)
  • and therefore, require continuous and/or pervasive support and guidance throughout their lives.

From a psychological perspective, our competence includes individuals with moderate, severe, and profound intellectual disabilities, as well as those with multiple disabilities who also belong to the respective groups of intellectual disabilities.

The special educator who has completed the specialization can participate in early intervention, preschool education, development school education, individual and group development, preparation for adult roles, guidance tasks in adulthood, and advocacy and counselling. The curriculum reflects a modern, human rights-based approach and incorporates the latest national and international research findings, offering balanced academic and practical knowledge.
