Extending loans

Extending loans

A loan period may be extended before the due date either through the online catalogue or the WebApp, by email, on the telephone or in person.

Readers can check the due dates of their borrowed documents on their OPAC user interface or in the ELTE WebApp. On these two platforms they may also extend their loans online. (Some documents may not be extended online. Extension requests for such items may be made by email, on the telephone or in person.)

You may check your due dates and order online extensions in the following ways:

In the online catalogue

  1. Click on ’Log in’.
  2. Log in with the bar code number of your reading card or student ID (on an ELTE reading card the format will be: 30000000XXXXXX).
  3. Your password is your date of birth in the following format: YYYYMMDD (for example, 20030510).
  4. Look for ’Checked Out Items’ in the menu.

The loan of documents the status of which are restricted as "Limited loan" may NOT be extended online.

By ELTE WebApp

  1. Log in the WebApp.
  2. Your user name is the bar code number of your reading card. For ELTE citizens, your user name is your Neptun code.
  3. Your default password is your date of birth in the following format: YYYYMMDD (for example, 19970214). Passwords may be customised. For ELTE citizens, your password is the password of your Neptun code.
  4. In the WebApp look for ’Loans’ option in the menu at the bottom of the page.
  5. Click on the icon of the document the loan deadline of which you wish to extend, then click on ’Renew’.

If your extension request is accepted, the application will note the new due date. The extension will not be granted over the limit of the number of extensions allowed (2)  or if you owe debts to an ELTE library.

For extending loans on the telephone or by email the following information is required: reader’s name, bar code number of their reading card (or student ID), author and title of the borrowed document.
IMPORTANT: THE EXTENSION OF LOAN PERIOD IS ONLY GRANTED WHEN A NEW EXPIRY DATE IS RECIEVED FROM THE LIBRARY.
