International scholars are joining the editorial board
The editorial board has been expanded to include internationally renowned members. The journal, which is published by the ELTE University Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Education, now features highly regarded researchers from across the globe.

Besides István Hoffman, Borbála Bányai, Csilla Cserti-Szauer, Ilona Hernádi, László Péter Horváth, Nóra Jakab, Vanda Katona, Anett Maléth and Anikó Sándor the new members are:

  • Julia Bahner is an Associate Professor of Social Work at the School of Social Work, Lund University, Sweden. She earned her PhD in Social Work from the University of Gothenburg, where her research focused on sexuality issues within personal assistance services. Since then, her work on sexuality and disability has broadened to include international perspectives.
  • Thomas Barow has worked since 2022 as a Professor in Education at Örebro University, Sweden. He received his doctorate in 2007 at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany, with a thesis that addressed the situation of people categorised as “feeble-minded” in Sweden during the first half of the 20th century. At Örebro University, he leads the research environment SpecEDL (Special Education, Development and Learning). His research concerns special education and inclusion, focusing on pedagogical, didactical, social, and historical aspects from national and international perspectives.
  • Lesley Davis is a professor at the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University. Her research interests focus on accessibility and disability rights. She is actively involved in the work of AccessAble, promoting accessibility and inclusion.
  • Amita Dhanda is professor emerita at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad. She has carried out significant research into the rights and legal reform of people with mental health conditions, particularly with regard to the interpretation and application of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
  • Andrea Erdélyi is a professor at the University of Oldenburg. Her research interests include the school integration of people with intellectual disabilities, communication support, and international comparative studies in special educational and disability studies.
  • János Fiala‑Butora is a senior research fellow at the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences, Institute for Legal Studies in Hungary, and a researcher at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at the University of Galway in Ireland. His research interests include human rights, particularly the rights of people with disabilities and national minorities. He has been involved in reforming the guardianship system in several countries. 
  • Elizabeth Ombito Khalili is a PhD holder in Education, specializing in Educational Communication Technology and Pedagogy from Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya. She holds a Master of Education Degree in Language Education (Kiswahili) from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya. She studied Bachelor of Education Arts with Kiswahili and History as her teaching subjects. She has 30 years of teaching experience at a secondary school.
    Her research interests are Pedagogy, Curriculum, Educational media, and Language Education. She is currently the Dean of the School of Education at Rongo University. She has a keen interest in Special Needs Education as a supervisor and thesis advisor to postgraduate students in Special Needs Education.
  • Anna Matamala, BA in Translation (UAB) and PhD in Applied Linguistics (UPF, Barcelona), is a Full Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Leader of Transmedia Catalonia research group and AccessCat director, her research focuses on audiovisual translation and media accessibility. She has participated in and led many funded projects on audiovisual translation and media accessibility and has taken an active role in the organisation of scientific events such as the Media for All conference or the Advanced Research Audio Description Seminar. She has a strong interest in knowledge transfer activities such as standardisation.
  • Edit Somfalvi is an assistant professor at the Protestant Theological Institute in Cluj-Kolozsvár, Romania. She has been a Reformed Minister since 1994. She obtained her degree in Pastoral Counselling in 2006 and her PhD in Practical Theology in 2015 at the Reformed Theological University in Debrecen. She teaches Catechization and Liturgy at the PTI. Her current research focuses on developing methodologies for catechizing Z and ALPHA generations, with a special outlook on people with disabilities. The other research field is in Liturgy, where seeks possibilities to engage people with disabilities in everyday church life.
  • Jan Walmsley is a professor at the Open University. He has decades of experience in disability studies, particularly with regard to the self-advocacy and community participation of people with intellectual disabilities. He has been a pioneer in disseminating inclusive and participatory research.

The internationalisation of the editorial board creates new opportunities for national and international authors alike. It will also enhance the journal's scientific quality and visibility.

We welcome manuscripts on disability studies and special needs education from prospective authors, both in English and in Hungarian.
