Main research areas
We are of the belief that it can be useful as social scientists to put at the center of our study future visions and their impact: the work that future projections “do”. The ambition and scope of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of the views of the future, and to the role of agency that underpin the argumentations. A major focus of the research will be on issues of agency in connection to visions of the future as we are of the view that issues of agency are critical to our understanding of possible future scenarios. The project will provide further important insight into how these expectations towards future might foreclose certain future trajectories. To reach the research aims we use traditional sociological interview methods on the one hand and sophisticated tools that have been developed to “manage” the future (certain scenario building techniques) on the other hand. These methods seemed most appropriate to generate rich data applicable for the interpretation of fictional expectations. Our aim, therefore, with using the planning tools will be to provide possible scenarios for the future and analyze the scenario building itself with a sociological gaze. The key interlocutory question that joins methods and parts of our research is focusing on the concept of fictional expectations and the issues of agency. Visions on Artificial Intelligence and work are present in many levels in society, and AI is present in a great range of areas within many societies, therefore we find it highly relevant to investigate expectations with respect to AI. We focus on developments in the field of AI and the labor market until 2050.
