Our faculty was represented by Ágota Szekeres and Endre Horváth at the EARLI 2025 international conference, which was held in Graz, Austria, from the 25th to the 29th of August, 2025. EARLI (the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction) is one of Europe's most important educational research organisations, and its conferences showcase the latest scientific findings and innovative practices in learning and teaching.
Our researchers presented the SMETRY sociometric method in a demo session titled "Exploring Classroom Social Dynamics: A Demonstration of the SMETRY Method", which provides an opportunity to map and visualise social relationships in classroom communities. With the help of this method, teachers and researchers can identify student roles, group cohesion characteristics, and social relationship patterns, thereby supporting the creation of an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
During the presentation, participants had the opportunity to try the SMETRY method. The presentation not only explained the theoretical background and application possibilities of this method, but also presented practical examples from various educational environments, including inclusive classrooms, where SMETRY has proved to be an effective tool in supporting social relationships.
The presentation was followed by a lively professional discussion: participants asked numerous questions about the application of the method, the pedagogical value of data visualisation, and the significance of analysing unrequited mutual choices. They received considerable positive feedback on the practical usefulness of SMETRY and the easy-to-use digital interface of the method. The international interest and constructive feedback confirmed that the SMETRY method can make an important contribution to understanding and developing the social dynamics of student communities.
